Art Statement

I am an artist. To be completely honest, I do not know precisely why I am an artist. I know my need to create is a key component of that which defines me and it has been with me since I can remember. In a way, art chose me not the other way around. I am a woman who needs to create art everyday.

I trace spaces with shapes and colors in which the strength of the sea, the richness of the earth, my emotions and nuances of the human experience and social justice are revealed with special emphasis on resilience and the gift of being a woman.  As an artist, I feel compelled to express myself in ways that for hundreds of years were denied to women.

I let my creativity flow intuitively, then I deeply research the subject of my interest, and explore analogies, metaphors and symbolisms. A first sketch guides my hand as the work’s composition and color palette grow with a life of its own. As I evolve day to day, life gradually intertwines with my work giving birth to different ways of reading it. During this process I aim to touch the audience’s awareness developing a connection with the art piece hopefully to catalyze from an abstract idea a call to action to bring about change in a more humane (empathetic) direction.

My style reflects imaginary realism and my subconscious searching a relationship with reality. I have been substantially influenced by my Latin-American origin, magical realism movement, visionary art, surrealisms and artists like René Magritte, Remedios Varo, Dorothea Tanning, Hilma af Klint, among others.
